If I should ever arrive at school again and have no power please note that I will be leaving and taking a sick day. When I walked in the door and saw that the power was out...It should have been my warning to turn around and run. No actually, we had a lot of fun in the dark. I am proud to say that I was organized enough to find my flashlights (in the dark mind you) and I found them very quickly. We led our kids to our room with flashlights and tried to make the morning as "normal" as possible. Sue (my next door neighbor teacher) does not have a window in her room. Therefore, her children had absolutely NO light...Being the good neighbors that we are, we invited them over. The kids did a great job together. The power was restored a little after 9:15 and we attempted to go about our day. Shortly after the lights came on my lovely B had a meltdown. I was scratched to pieces while I held him on the floor to prevent him from making more of a mess in my room. Next, we hear screaming in the hallway and it was a girl from another K room that was screaming "I'm not brave" about the lights being out. Needless to say she was removed from her classroom as well. Now that everything had calmed back down of course there was more screaming. A little boy named E from the room across the hall was being removed because of his tantrum. We went to lunch and things were fairly normal until we found out that a child with autism and an explosive disorder was placed into one of our K rooms. We leave lunch and as we are walking back M from my neighbors classroom has a fit. Soon after, a teacher came into my room and let me know that the "new kid" had an "explosion" to say the least and was being suspended. Well, I toughed it out and made it to dismissal. The intern from across the hall was trying to get her class out of the room to go home, but could not because E was having another tantrum. I told her to take her class and I would take him. Let's just say after several kicks and blows to my knee and shins I had him out of the classroom. The afterschool program took him kicking and screaming down to the cafeteria. Then I proceeded to my dismissal duty. Not to mention I had bus duty which is the absolute worst. As I was standing there praying for it to be over soon, the fire alarm goes off. I had to lead atleast 100 children out of the building to the field in the blazing hot sun not knowing what could possibly be going on. The fire trucks arrived and we were cleared to go into the building to find out that E had pulled the fire alarm in the cafeteria. Our principal came over the intercom and told us to grab our things and leave the building before anything else went terribly wrong. I was elated. I grabbed my things and discovered my car keys were missing. Could you believe the day could actually have gotten worse? My keys were NO WHERE to be found. After an hour of searching I called Josh to bring me my spare. Where do you think my spare is?? In my center console! So, it was 3:20 and we had an appointment at 4pm to pick out our appliances in Altamonte. I told Josh he would have to come pick me up, but his car had just overheated so he said there was no way we would make it to Altamonte. We actually had to borrow our friend's car to drive out there! I half-heartedly picked out my appliances as I was reminded of my awful day with each step because my shins were so darn sore! Until today I never really knew what a bad day was!
